End-to-End VPN Process Model Analysis
The Business Challenge
A large international service provider was about to rollout its new VPN product to the marketplace. They needed to decide whether or not implement a major IT software development initiative that promised to save time and money in the service delivery process. Vertek was asked to capture and document the as-is process, and perform simulation analysis utilizing key variables including the IT implementation in order to determine the plausible results and substantiate the business case.
The Vertek Solution
Vertek BAs first baselined the process and the customers’ OSS key performance indicators and metrics. The new Vertek process model included a time and motion study coupled with the existing metrics. Through the model analysis, what-if situations produced several recommendations regarding stated goals as well as other process improvements that were communicated to the client stakeholders.
The Net Result
Vertek’s analysis and recommendations clearly showed that the proposed IT business solution would not deliver upon its stated objectives and therefore was not worth the investment. Vertek also:
- Found that the end-to-end service delivery interval exceeded norms based on process and industry best practices by over one week
- Provided process recommendations that could recover as many as 10 days in the end-to-end interval
- Presented recommendations to reclaim over $4 million in annualized revenue, and
- Identified additional revenue loss due to process inefficiencies of greater than $6 million on an annualized basis
